nike chronicles 「1971 – 1980」

During my monthly magazine raid at Kinokuniya, I came across what I have come to call, “The Nike Bible Vol. 1″. The Nike Chronicles covers the history and evolution of not only their footwear, but apparel, advertising, a freeze frame into sports of that era, and even some of their competitors shoes. Published by Lightning, the bible is in mostly Japanese, with the titles, dates, and silhouette names in English. A great pickup even if just to see the history of the Nike brand. I’m hoping to see a 1980-90 volume at some point, but only time will tell.

Also, those are my LDVs in the first picture, one of my favorite pairs of kicks. Shows you how some of the original silhouettes stand up to the test of time. If anyone has any in size 13, feel free to hit me up.

Reading material

As someone that generally avoids reading at all costs, I do enjoy magazines. I thinks its mainly because of my A.D.D., and the fact that a magazine is just the appropriate length to retain my train of thought without feeling like a lecture. An advantage of the format is that its just a bite sized amount of info on a multitude of topics, ever page a new experience and possible lesson learned. Most of what I pick up fall into a few main categories; fashion, shoes, design, and the occasional auto tuning mag. Lately I’ve been taking full advantage of a bookstore in San Francisco’s Japantown to grab copies of all the Japanese magazines I’d otherwise miss out on. Here are some of my regular pick ups:

Supreme Book: Supreme Edition

The saying “A picture is worth a thousand words” has always been a true statement to me, and in the case of the Supreme Book, a picture is worth sixteen years worth of words. The new Supreme book is a photographic representation of the history of the brand. The book is packed to the gills with great content such as, an interviews with KAWS, photos of work with Damien Hirst, Public Enemy, Lou Reed, and even a complete product index, kinda insane. The Supreme Edition of the book, comes in a white slip cover and has a bit of additional content that will be pretty obvious when flipping through. This limited version can only be obtained from Supreme retail stores in the US as well as Japan, or from the online store for 68$. The normal edition is available via Amazon and other retail outlets for 32$.

INVENTORY Volume 01 Number 01

Culture, lifestyle and fashion collective, INVENTORY, has finally launched their, much anticipated, first issue of their magazine. Interviews with leaders in the fashion industry, coverage of various collections, and much more, this looks to be a great first step in a hopefully fruitful endeavor. Looking forward to getting my copy.
