clipse - till' the casket drops
So I’ve listened to this album back to front a couple times already, and it made me think that I should probably throw in my 2¢ about it. Now rap these days is pretty linear, and ‘Til the Casket Drops, is by no means an exception to the rule. Its so linear in fact, that I could make a flow chart to cover the contents of the entire album, instead I will do it with a bullet point list.

  • I’ve sold cocaine
  • My past relationships were pretty shitty
  • I’ve sold cocaine
  • Money is something I have acquired a lot of
  • I’ve sold cocaine
  • I’ve probably had sex with a lot of women, one of which might be your wife/mother/sister/etc.
  • I’ve sold cocaine
  • People hate on me because I rap well and have money, and probably had sex with your wife/mother/sister/etc.
  • I’ve sold weed
  • I might have critically injured a few people for various reasons
  • Man, do you know how much cocaine I’ve sold?
  • Oh, and NO SNITCHIN’ (which totally makes rapping about all the coke you’ve sold seem a little dumb, see also: boondocks example)

That being said, I am in no way , shape, or form saying that this is a bad album. In fact its really damn good, and I would encourage you pick it up. The Neptunes did a great job with production, considering they did more then half. Remaining production duty was handled by DJ Khalil and Sean C & LV, who manage to capture the sound Clipse fans are used to. There are plenty club tracks are well as some really grimy track to blast as you do 5mph in your neighborhood, or scare everyone at an intersection. The only down note I would say, is that Cam’ron’s verse, in “Popular Demand” is absolutely fucking worthless. I frequently skip the song just because of him, if someone remixed the song and cut his part out, I would use it instead of the real version. I mean really… Anyway, be sure to pick up a copy when it drops on Dec 8th.
