In case you hadn’t heard, something called the iPhone was released today by some company named Apple. But from the looks of it, it’s probably the worst launch of any phone ever an Apple product. At least 95% of people I know who tried to purchase one this morning have come away with either a bricked or an un-activated phone. Now I promised I wouldn’t launch a rant about my iPhone hatred, so I will let these quotes and articles do the work for me.

I could go on for awhile but you get the point.
From Woz himself:
“A little faster downloading of web pages, and it has a GPS [Global Positioning System] chip built in. But, you know, these aren’t, like, break-the-bank items…A lot of the people I know just aren’t going to upgrade yet. - Steve Wozniak
And the iPhone/Apple quote of the year:
I am continually amazed at the level of innovation at Apple, coupled with a near catastrophic lack of common sense. I guess the maxim is true - brain smart, but not enough common sense to come out of the rain. - Random Guy
Just a note: I DO own an iPhone, so i’m not some random hater.

and yet, I’m betting you’ll be an iPhone 3G owner at some point soon too.
I actually agree on the point that it’s faster downloads and GPS (however limited it maybe) aren’t a good enough reason for me to upgrade. I was telling Hoover this the other day (and today) that if it had been 32Gig/64Gig upgrade along with the 3G&GPS this would have been a slam dunk for me getting one. Having rocked the 2.0 Firmware for 24 hours now, I can say that I think it’s quite an awesome device now. Strictly speaking the enterprise additions and such are a wonderful and so far, flawless addition to the phone.

Man, what happened to the days when we all had whateverthehell phone we felt like buying?
There used to be none of this “Did you get the [fill in the blank] phone yet?” Well except for those of us that could actually afford a StarTac (Eric, you’re too young to remember that).
Nobody was pressed enough to camp out overnight for anything other than a Cabbage Patch Kid. I kind of miss the olden days of mobile technology.
