This internet thing is an unforgiving, unfulfilling, and sometimes, down-right lonely place.Years ago when I began blogging, if anyone questioned if people read my site I’d have told them, “I don’t give a rats ass”. The sad thing is that I really did care, but failed to see just how saturated the internet was on the subject matter that interested me. I had ideas on topics that I imagined would be a fresh perspective, and spark interesting conversation amongst my peers, alas there were none to be found. Although a bit discouraged at times, I never quite gave up and kinda just stuck it out.
Over the years I honed the little bit of skill i’m clinging to, and have grown in readership as well as an ever growing circle of peers. These are people whom I admire and respect a great deal, as well as value their varying points of view. In return, and without compensation, these folks have offered me guidance, inspiration, an honest opinion, and in most cases, back me up when I’m having an insane rant. Today being a friday, I’d usually be scrambling to put together my #ff (follow friday) on twitter, but today I felt the need to point these people out, as they are as deserving of you attention as I am.
@freemanbrand @kingfunckncarter @g_mas @pletty @onandbeyond @jl_ltdhype @mrkpmtl @ridlej @marcustroy @lvaldizon @get_dizzy @dctobc and last but not least, @nicolegregory my wife, who has supported my search for a voice online, and hasn’t tried to divorce me over all the shoes I keep bringing home. Thanks to all my friends and followers for the support.
One thing about living in San Francisco is that there is always change and movement, such is the case with actually residing in the city. Considering 90% of the people in the city could probably never afford to own their current residence, you never know when you may need to pull up the stakes and relocate. I found myself in this sitation recently, and I can say that having to relocate puts everything else on hold. It shuts dow your work productivity, your social life, and in some cases your health (see also: fucked up back). Regardless I find the change refreshing, and sometimes look forward to it, but the single thing I hate most about moving… is having to deal with my shoes.
This picture is actually cart one of three needed to move just my shoes. I’m not gloating, I just like shoes, and its a bitch of an obsession to deal with. I’m finally set up in my new digs and settled in, which means I can turn my focus back to other projects, such as this site. Thanks for sticking around, and lets get on with the show. Cheers
…It’s not about how other people see you. What works for you? And what works for you might not work for somebody else.
Today marks the first day of the relaunch of Free/Man, a site dedicated to quality, style and individuality. I’ve been following Darian’s blog for some time now, and he recently hinted that he was up to something. After pulling the cover off of an amazingly clean and stylish redesign, I can see why he kept quiet. With this relaunch, comes an addition to the Free/Man staff in Luis Valdizon of Minoru Blvd, as Art Director. I know this partnership will spawn amazing things, and you should definitely keep an eye out for them in the coming months. I’d like to say congrats to my friends on the relaunch and future success.
Quick update. site was down/broken/unreachable for awhile, this was due to a security issue which led to site being hacked. Nothing too destructive, as I was able to recover the database and most of my files. I have a couple tweaks to make to hopefully assure this won’t happen again, but it was definitely a reminder that I need to keep on top of this kind of stuff. Back to business as usual.
I’m pretty sure that’s the thought going through your head as you stare at what is now an empty site. What happened? Well a couple things, I jacked up the database, hadn’t backed it up in about a year, didn’t feel like recovering from host, server was also full of stray files… basically spring (fall) cleaning. I’m actually looking forward to starting this site over anyway, as events in my life had caused me to neglect posting, leaving huge gaps in post dates. Well less talking, more post. cheers
