Months ago I decided to finally dip my toe in the selvedge denim pool, as I began to tire of crappy quality, ill-fitting jeans, that I would just end up donating months later. With much research and budget consideration, I settled a pair of New Standards, by the French label A.P.C., as my inaugural pair. Well this weekend marked three months into project second skin, or “are you wearing those same damn jeans?”, as its more commonly known. Originally, these jeans were purchased two sizes down as I was aware of A.P.C.’s tendency to stretch, and after the first week they were almost perfect waist size 34. So far the fading is going according to plan, and overall they still feel nearly as crisp and solid as they did after that first week of wear. I’m very pleased with my pick and would highly recommend then to those interested. I’m really looking forward to comparing shots in a couple months to see the progress and will keep you guys up to date.
This shirt is quite possibly my favorite article of clothing.

There is really nothing special about it. It’s around two years old and the quality is just ok. Hell, the top button popped off the second time I wore it. No, it’s not made of super, high-tech cotton fabric with old world stitching.

But, you know what? None of that matters to me because I love it.

That’s actually the problem with most fashion sites (even mine, sometimes) — all you hear is talk about the newest/hottest shit that people like. Which, nine times out of ten, is far out of the reach of your average consumer. Rarely do you hear about great finds at regular, nationwide chains and how great they actually work with the looks you might be trying to achieve.

This simple, Old Navy flannel jumped out at me when I first spotted it because it had a nice, slim cut and a lot of versatility. I can wear it with a pair of dark denim and just about any pair of boots in my closet. Or I can wear it unbuttoned over a white tee, a pair of shorts and Sperrys/low Dunks/New Balance and call it a wrap.

The point of this post is: don’t let the fact that a piece didn’t come from Italy or Japan deter you from picking it up. Who knows, it might end up being a piece that you’ll see in your closet for a long time to come. Fashion is like life — if you can’t enjoy it then what’s the point?

The Gap, is a place I haven’t been familiar with in some time. For the most part, they had a good run when I was younger, but about the time they started pumping out those super catchy commercials, their quality took a nose dive. The past couple years they’ve just been pumping out disposable, random screen printed shirts, polos, and seasonal junk. That being said, this year their seems to be a sudden swing back to their roots of simple, quality, functional pieces. The guys at Put This On put me on to their new crew-neck sweater, which I just so happen to be in the market for. While the material isn’t the highest quality, its rather comfortable, and seems a lot more durable then some of the older items they had in stock. With a price point of 35$, really what the fuck do you have to complain about? The crew-neck comes in a heather grey, and a basic blue(pictured) which has contrasting stitching. Works very well layered over your favorite oxford, or even with a simple white tee underneath. Interested? Pick one up for yourself at your local Gap or online.

I don’t know how things like this happen, but I must admit, today was my first time stopping by the flagship shop for Brooklyn Circus. Its particularly maddening because I’m usually just around the corner on Post street every couple weekends. That being said, I did mentally kick myself in the ass a little bit after finally stepping foot in. Upon entering, the shop reminds you of an era when guys dressed to the nines on the regular, and could beat the piss outta you without breaking a sweat. Its something that you really need to experience to understand.

With an excellent atmosphere to the shop, top notch customer service and the threads to match, this is high on my list of shops you need to visit. Pictures from my Trip to the San francisco shop after the jump.

These are the varsity jackets that got the internet goin nuts. After seeing them, I can assure you that all the hype is well earned. These are dropping on black friday (nov 27th) with a super limited run, and in-store only. These are the times when it pays to have a connection in SF or NY.

If you are in town, and looking to pick up something for yourself or a loved one, I’d HIGHLY suggest making the trek out. Also you can peep pics from my homie, Marcus Troy, at the Brooklyn Circus NY.

Last week GOLD COIN began unleashing their winter line-up to fans of the SF based clothing line. First drop was their winter tees, and then shortly followed by The Flannelz…

The Flannelz come in 4 different styles. All 4 styles include double breasted pockets and double button sleeve cuffs. Each one is hand made in San Francisco with extreme detail in mind. The fitted cut is slim enough for layering up yet still loose enough to wear over your favorite t-shirt. A perfect fit.

When I say these shirts are hot, I kid you not. If I had the scratch, I would have one of each as we speak. If you find yourself feeling the same about The Flannelz, I would advise you stop over at the GOLD COIN online shop and pick one or two up quickly. The drop is a pretty limited run, as there are only 15 of each style available. I look forward to the next pieces of the GOLD COIN winter collection, and will keep you guys up to date as info comes.

Yesterday night marked the Montreal launch of Adidas’ ObyO Fall/Winter 09 Collection. The headliners of this collection, Jeremy Scott, James Bond, and Kazuki Kuraishi are instantly recognizable in the fashion industry. Each brings a totally different approach to their pieces, creating a rather dynamic collection. Below are a couple pieces, snapped by Marcus Troy, that really stood out to me.

First there is this Neighborhood x Adidas Peacoat. I love Peacoats as well as Neighborhood, so a combination of the two in such a fitting fashion is an easy sell for me.

Then we have this amazing grey leather jacket, by James Bond. It probably costs a small fortune but it is rather slick, and I’m certainly not against anyone picking one up for me.

For more awesome photos of this event, head over to Marcus’ blog for his complete set.

Culture, lifestyle and fashion collective, INVENTORY, has finally launched their, much anticipated, first issue of their magazine.
